PC Ical returns – but did he follow protocols that could have prevented this ordeal?

And so today ComPol Chester Williams had nothing but welcoming words for his officer, hailing him a brave man – but did that brave man adhere to the protocols on the ground? Some believe that if Ical had followed those protocols it could have all been prevented.  News 5 received copies of statements allegedly made by officers on the patrol team. We say allegedly because they are unsigned but other sources have confirmed that they are legitimate reports, and those accounts given by the B.D.F. soldiers all say that P.C. Bernard Ical left the team and didn’t inform anyone of his whereabouts.  A statement purportedly from the commander of the team on the ground, also states that Ical departed without informing him. Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams was evasive when that line of questioning was posed to him.

“Sir, for the mishap of PC Ical being left behind, is there from what you’ve been able to learn about the situation any fault of the BDF officers – was there miscommunication with what happened?”

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“I am not going to point fingers at anybody at this time but there are indeed some administrative issues that need to be worked out and between myself and the General, we are going to work those out.”

Andrea Polanco

“ComPol, are you able to say if you are confident or sure that all protocols that are to be followed were followed on the ground in this instance?”

Chester Williams

“You are asking the same question in a different way.”

Andrea Polanco

“There is information that channel 5 received saying that this is not the first time that an officer would move on his own or go on his own – the BDF – they have made numerous complaints that the police officers don’t follow the directives when they are down there – how do you respond to that?”

Chester Williams

“I have seen the media have received all kind of information – some very erroneous; some not true and some very misleading. So, I don’t see how I can respond to that. Not everything the media receives is true.”|

Andrea Polanco

“So, are you saying then the Police Department, perhaps the SPU, has never received…?”

Chester Williams

“I have never received any of those information.”

Reporter

“Any that you have to prevent maybe a reoccurrence?”

Chester Williams

“The patrol is a BDF patrol – we merely accompany the B.D.F. So, I am sure that there are things that the General will be working on and whatever support he needs from the police to ensure that they do things better next time that will be done.”
