Some Patients Still Test COVID-Positive After 14 Day Incubation Period

Marvin Manzanero

PCR tests have been touted as the gold standard for testing for COVID-19 and the Ministry of Health has been using this method consistently.  But there are concerns that even after clearing the fourteen-day quarantine process, COVID victims are still testing positive for the disease.  Today, Doctor Manzanero explained what their observations are with PCR tests.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“We have a good amount of persons that are still testing positive on the PCR test on day fourteen.  I mean, in just San Pedro alone, the doctor yesterday communicated to me that he has more than a hundred and sixty persons who have gone beyond day fourteen and are still positive.  Now the data will tell you that persons are not routinely going to be symptomatic which means that they are not really going to be passing on or shedding viruses or infecting others but is still positive on the PCR test.  So that’s something we are reviewing.  When people are able to go back to work, even if your result has not come back as negative but you are not having any signs or symptoms then that’s a note that we are making for the employer.”
