51 New Cases of COVID-19

Due to the frenzy of the hurricane, COVID-19 took a back seat temporarily. But tonight, the number of cases is now at a whopping one thousand one hundred and one; and more are expected later tonight when the most recent results are to be released.  As we have been reporting, the numbers have been growing at an alarming rate. There are eight hundred and forty-eight active cases and a total of two hundred and forty persons have recovered from the coronavirus.  The available figures show that in a batch of two hundred and sixty-one samples processed, fifty-one new cases of the virus were identified.  The highest number is in the Orange Walk District where twenty-three new cases were recorded in the town, San Felipe, Yo Creek, San Jose, San Pablo, August Pine Ridge and Trial Farm.  That district now accounts for a total of three hundred and eighty cases. The preliminary breakdown also includes six cases in the Corozal District, including Ranchito and Paraiso villages. There are five new cases in the west, in San Jose Succotz, Belmopan and Santa Elena.  The Stann Creek accounts for three and the Belize District has fourteen new cases, identified in Belize City, San Pedro, Double Head Cabbage, Willow’s Bank, Ladyville and Burrell Boom. As we said, more results are expected later tonight.
