September Celebrations, COVID-19 and Technology

It’s September so the national celebrations are upon us.  But unlike the previous years, this year’s calendar of events is anticipated to be less festive and that’s all due to COVID-19.  The September Celebrations Committee has had to downsize the celebrations and reduce events. Only the main events will be held with strict COVID-19 preventative protocols.  The other events will be held virtually and that includes the carnival. President of NICH, Sapna Budhrani explains.

“It is difficult for all us of and we can say that this is lone whatever and sit back and be lazy or we can take it as a challenge and say let us learn how to use Zoom, let us learn how to use technology to showcase our talent and that is what we are trying to do. Our team has been focusing on our major events first, which is the official launch, the tenth, the twentieth and the twenty first. The other events we are trying to fill it like the night bram that happens throughout the country, but not ever district will be able to have a night bram each municipality is being requested to get their artists involved also. What we are doing this September is recognizing what has happened in the past and bringing it forward to where we are today and trying to adapt technology to move us forward. As you mentioned, for obvious reasons, we cannot do any gathering and we don’t want to be the main cause for any spread but we still do hope to not forget that one of our most active times in September so we are keeping active for September.”
