CEMO Coordinates Emergency Plan in Belize City

Back here in the City, the City Emergency Management Organization was activated on Tuesday evening. CEMO says that since Monday they issued an alert – and today they kicked it into high gear with all the committees and departments meeting to coordinate the activities for the city. Today we stopped by at the meeting for the Emergency Operation Center to find out about some of the preparations being done. Belize City Councilor responsible for CEMO Michael Noralez says that the EOC will remain up and running – even through the storm – to ensure that all bases are covered.

“You call that the emergency operation center so there is where all the information comes to and every advice or warning goes out from there but we need to get all information from NEMO and MET office given to us and then we disseminate the information. Also, after the storm, whosoever is here will probably be here until six this evening and then we have another shift. After the storm, people who take data – who record data from those affected – will also feed that information into this nerve center and then we will inform those who are concerned to go out and deal with those people.  They document what is needed by each person and they meet and they tell us and we deploy whatever aid is needed at that time. So, in there we have the B.D.F.; the Police Department; Coast Guard; Port Authority; Transport Department; and so everyone there has a role.”
