OW Town Council Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19

The daily release of COVID results was interrupted today as authorities prepared for the storm. The most recent number of cases is one thousand and seven, which was as of Tuesday.  Btu we can confirm tonight, that an employee of the Orange Walk Town Council tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. The female employee works in the Transport Department and was feeling ill last week Friday when she began showing typical COVID-19 signs and symptoms. According to Mayor Kevin Bernard, the employee was sent home and everyone who had contact with her was asked to self-isolate. Bernard says that the works department at the town council was also thoroughly sanitized. As for a potential COVID spread, the Mayor says that there are stringent measures put in place to avoid transmission.

“One of our employees who had reported feeling a bit ill, was showing symptoms on about the twenty eight of August I believe it was last week was sent home and asked to go and take a test because the symptoms that she was portraying were all sings of CVID. It turned out that late yesterday I believe they were informed that indeed the employee turned out positive for COVID. As such she works at the traffic department. The office has been sanitized and we are going to sanitize it for the next three days and the traffic department should be operating back on Monday. But I want to make the clarification that while the employee may had tested positive on COVID the traffic department had a lot of protocols in place. In fact when you try to get your services done, you are tended to from outside. There are different booths set up downstairs so people don’t make entry inside the building unless they needed to take a new picture or so. Since she was the person who deals with that there were these precautions that we had to take. So a booth was set up that blocks her from the actual customers.”

“What about the possibility of spread within the department, among the employees?”

Kevin Bernard

“We have had those employees who had immediate contact; I spoke immediately to the senior public officer informing them where she works downstairs. The only good thing of it is that it is not all the employees. So the ones that had immediate contact are the ones who we have asked to go and swab.”
