CitCo’s Works Department Sanitized

A family member of a City Council Traffic Department employee died over the past weekend due to COVID-19. Tonight the virus threatens City Hall again as another family member of an employee has tested positive.  Consequently, the Belize City Council’s Works Department of the George Price Highway was sanitized today. The council contracted the services of Sanitization and Fumigation of Environments, SAFE, in Belize City to disinfect a specific area of the building. To prevent a potential spread at the Department, Councilor Responsible for Works, Albert Vaughn, saw the need to quickly disinfect the surroundings. According to Vaughn, the employee has not reported to work since his family member tested positive.

“We had a worker whose family member was positive as so we are very concerned. We had that member went in yesterday morning to get his requirement that he needs to do. We follow strict protocol of the council because the council has a protocol which is of course is of the health system. That person did not return back to work because it was over the weekend. The person was swabbed yesterday and I believe that person is or should be in quarantined. So what happened after speaking to my senior management and the city administrator, we went it this morning and sanitized the area where the person worked and those who work close with that person were sent home for about seven days period or that so. Have in mind that the gentleman has not been confirmed positive or negative yet. I have investigated properly and I was told that the young man was not at works department. Yesterday morning that young man was at the public health to do his swabbed and I believe after that he went home to secure himself.”
