P.U.P. Withdraws Objections to Transferees and New Registrations

In Orange Walk today both major political parties were in court battling over newly registered voters and transferees. The People’s United Party for both the East and Central constituencies was challenging several applications of transfers and new registrations.  The P.U.P. says that these U.D.P. supporters do not reside at the address given to the Elections and Boundaries Department. The process of illegally transferring voters from one constituency to another has been happening for many years.  The P.U.P. in Orange Walk, however, has recognized that the system makes it almost impossible for an objection to be successful and as such, has decided to withdraw all objections. In the east, the U.D.P.’s Elodio Aragon Junior is claiming victory while Kevin Bernard says that the process is set up in a way to allow objections to fail.

“Today was the continuation of the objections that were brought forth by Kevin Bernard and his lawyer in terms that they had a total of nineteen objections. So we continued this morning in terms of those objections. And I would want to say that all those objections that were brought forth basically did not hold water and were put to pasture in terms that they were basically, we won it over the in regards to having these people remain on the list. I think in the days of objection yesterday and today we have seen that they have been calling a number of persons to go on the stand, all these persons that have been called on the stand are political paid personnel that works with the mayor or with the town council or the chairman of the village. They brought all these P.U.P. personal to object to having legitimate people allowed to vote, or who had transferred to east.”

“Despite the fact that we had sufficient evidence to prove on our side that these people do not reside at these addresses but that is what the system does. Like I said yesterday it is so unfortunate that the Representation of the People’s Act does not allow for any other major evidence to be taken to the court and it is up to the objector in this case our attorney had to prove to the court and satisfy the court that these people do not reside at these address. I was in the court throughout these hearings and it is so unfortunate for me to see that this is what is taking place in this country.”
