Cop Charged for Kidnapping Girlfriend

Dwayne Sutherland Jr.

A cop has been placed on interdiction pending the outcome of a kidnapping case in the south. Police Constable Dwayne Sutherland Junior, not to be confused with the Commander of the Professional Standards Branch who carries the same namesake, has been charged for forcibly abducting a woman he is in a relationship with. The incident occurred back on August fourth in which Alisha Valerio claims that she was taken against her will to the officer’s house and handcuffed inside before he assaulted her. According to Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero, this is the third report that has been made by the victim, but given the evidence this time around, the D.P.P. has given the directive for PC Sutherland to be charged.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Alisha Valerio, twenty years Belizean of Punta Gorda Town, reported that on Monday the fourth day of August 2020, she was forcibly taken to a room of one Dwayne Sutherland, who is a police officer, where Dwayne Sutherland handcuffed her to a bed and thereafter assaulted her. She managed to free herself at some point and reported the matter and was assisted by neighbours. As a result of this investigation, PC Dwayne Sutherland has been arrested and charged for the crime of kidnapping. Valerio reported that she had also been assaulted by this police officer on two different occasions in the past.  Advice was sought from the D.P.P. and the file was sent and the directive came to charge him for kidnapping.”

“…notwithstanding the report was made as early as the first week in August?”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Yeah; that is correct.”

Duane Moody

“Sir, he was only charged for kidnapping and not assault?”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“At this time, the other investigations are ongoing and other charges may follow.”

PC Dwayne Sutherland was arraigned today and offered bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars on charges of Aggravated Assault, Wounding and Kidnapping.  Sutherland also faces a charge of Handling Stolen Goods in respect of a cell phone that was stolen during an aggravated burglary and later found in his possession.
