No Postponement of Elections Despite Increase in COVID-19 Cases

Dean Barrow

As you heard earlier in the newscast, November fourth is touted as the date for the general elections. So there is no postponement or deferral of the upcoming general elections, despite an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country which has now topped one thousand and expected to continue to climb. So how is government preparing to hold a national vote amid the pandemic?  According to PM Barrow on Friday, the planning that will take place to coordinate the smooth flow of the elections will certainly take into consideration all existing protocols for the safety of voters and everyone involved in the process.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I am sure that the Elections and Boundaries Office, together with the commission, will in fact be putting out the protocols that will have to apply to govern the elections process.  What I can tell you is that there is absolutely no thought of seeking to postpone those elections and so we know that the obligation rather is to ensure that we can have as safe an elections process as possible.”
