52 New Cases of COVID-19!

Belize has registered eight hundred and seventy cases of the novel coronavirus. Seven hundred and sixty-five are active cases – three hundred and thirty-two are females and four hundred and thirty are males.  Ninety-three persons have recovered and twelve persons have died.  The latest infographic shows that fifty-two new positive cases were identified in three hundred and thirty-three samples today. Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero and Epidemiologist Doctor Russell Manzanero broke down the figures.

“Yesterday in itself we had fifty two new cases. So I’ll break it down by how they came in. for Corozal we have eighteen new cases, in Caledonia five. Libertad and Corozal two. Chan Chen three, Xiabe three and Chunox one. In Orange Walk District we have fourteen. San Pablo and San Felipe three. San Jose and Trial Farm two. Yo Creek, San Estevan, August Pine Ridge and Orange Walk Town one. Belize District we have five, Biscayne four and Caye Caulker one. For the Cayo District  Armenia three, Yalbac one and in Belmopan One. We do have twelve reported deaths, four in females and eight in males. Basically what we are looking at the age group there, from twenty five to thirty four we have two deaths. From fifty to fifty nine we have four deaths. Age group sixty to sixty four five deaths and one person over the age of sixty five. So far thirty nine newly recovered from this and I think the Director of Health Services will describe now how we are looking at that recovery, the case definition for that. For San Pedro we have twenty one individuals who have recovered. In Belize City nine. Independence two. Blue Creek, Corozal Town. Libertad, Las Flores and Concepcion each report on recovered case.”

“You will notice that more males are dying that females. The recovery cases are also more females than males. And we also have a hundred more cases of SARSCOV2 in males than we do in females. So what we are doing in terms of the recovery situation is that in the past it used to be two negative tests that were being done. Keeping online with what is reported internationally we are now only doing one test once that test comes out negative. The person is deemed to have recovered and that is why we are starting that process of reporting as of today.”
