Free Textbooks for Students for Distance Learning

Cecilia Smith

September is being considered as a trial month for distance learning by the Ministry of Education and so teachers are advised not to grade the work that students hand in, but to share advice, suggestions and feedback. Government and grant aided schools will be receiving textbooks to be distributed to the students. The books are free and every student that attends a government or grant aided school is entitled to receive so it helps with their learning experience.

Cecilia Smith, Deputy Chief Education Officer

“With the use of print materials the Ministry does provide a free text book program and the free text books program for primary schools include a series what we believe are very quality and relevant work books that students can use at home. So the Ministry at this time is preparing the distribution of the work books because we do that on an annual basis and the text books. They will be circulated to the schools through the District Education Centers and schools are being asked to ensure that these very text books are the things that are sent home so that they can use as the primary mechanism that students can produce whatever it is they are learning in terms of the requirements that they lay out in this period of time.”

“I also want to reiterate that these text books and work books are free of cost and every child is entitled to one of those books. Please contact the schools and the teachers of your school and ensure that your child receives one of those books.  If your child has special needs we have special needs officer in every district center. They can guide you. Please it is important that you ensure every child. Children who have special needs, children who do not have any disabilities, every child needs must be met and we are here to support you.”

“The text books are to be used in our government and granted aided schools. So when we prepare them we pay attention to the numbers of students are enrolled in those schools and they are intended for that purpose. When students are not in one of those schools then whatever structure you have set up, if they are in a private school for example they will have to rely on the services of the private school to help them through their learning experience. If they are in a home school which is an official alternate to school they will have to rely on the structure of the home schooling to help the through the learning experience. So these texts books are only for students that are in our public, government or granted aided schools.”
