Alfred “Big Red” Usher Wanted

Alfred Usher

Alfred “Big Red” Usher last week bitterly complained to News Five that he has been illegally and unfairly detained and placed in quarantine. He was caught in Orange Walk with contraband cigarettes primarily sold at the Corozal Free Zone. More than two weeks had passed and Usher remained at the quarantine centre. A frustrated Usher called out the police department for unfair treatment but after that interview aired, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, was informed that this was not the first time that Usher had committed the same offence. Williams found out that Usher was a wanted man since 2017 when he was caught with contraband cigarette and alcohol.

“I watched an interview where the honourable Michael Finnegan said, a wise head keeps a still tongue. Well after he gave that interview I got a call from someone saying ComPol there is a commitment warrant out for that man because he was charged for contraband good and was fined twenty thousand dollars that he had not paid. And so right away I directed the officer in charge of Orange Walk to go to the court and that warrant was obtained. So now instead of serving quarantine he is now serving a jail sentence because he had failed to pay his court fine. Had he remained silent we would not have know that he was wanted on the strength of a commitment warrant.”
