Belmopan City Council Working on a Shift System

Khalid Belisle

Back in March when the outbreak of the coronavirus in Belize was detected, the council began working a shift system; that has now been re-implemented so operations and services at the council have not been suspended.

Khalid Belisle, Belmopan Mayor

“To this point, we haven’t fully suspended any of our operations, any services that we offer. As a matter of fact, even before these employees came forward to notify us that they may have been exposed or been exposed to a person who had tested positive, we had already re-implemented the shift system here at the council wherein across the vast majority of our departments, we are having a portion of the work complement in each department work from home as best they can on a week-to-week basis so one week here at the office and one week from home. So it allows us to continue offering the services that we provide to the general public here in Belmopan uninterrupted to this point. We are hoping that that will continue to be the case, but of course, if the determination is made that it’s best that we close down certain departments or just lock down the council all together in the interest of public safety, that’s what we will do.”
