The Unexplainable Chicken Shortage Lingers

Chicken, the mainstay on dinner tables, is in short supply and producers are baffled about the scarcity. For weeks now, the amount of chicken in the freezers has been dwindling leaving the buyers with less and less chicken for local consumption. Poultry producers have increased production so the fact that there is less chicken in the market presents concerns for restaurants, fast food stores, and households across the country. At the local supermarkets, the bird is on ration. One of the largest producers and retailers, Quality Poultry Products, is reporting near-empty coolers and according to General Manager Raymond Barkman, July production was increased, but the shortage remains. Barkman told News Five that he is unable to explain the cause for the shortage.

“I am sort of at loss for words. We have been scratching our heads the last few days trying to figure what is happening because we are almost back to the same schedule we were before COVID. I believe, I am pretty sure this is the same for competitors. So the truth we are producing as much chicken as we were before COVID but it is not getting anywhere. I am not even trying to start explain why because I really don’t know. Today and this I can say for a fact today was the worse day that anybody will experience for this whole year was exactly today. It will only get better from here and after. I will nt say anymore how long it will take because as you said it seems that there is an unexplainable event where people just love our chicken so much but we are working with in increasing as fast as we can.”

“The shortage will be short term?”

“Of course, definitely. But I said this a month ago already and we are still not catching on. So I have to be a little bit carful what I say but I know we are back to full production by next week. That doesn’t meant the chicken shortage will be over but I can assure that we are back to what we are doing before COVID came by next week.”

“The question is where is all the chicken?”

Raymond Barkman

“I wish someone can help me understand and like I said I am just sticking to the point that maybe it is just our beautiful quality.”
