Deejays Need Unemployment Relief Too

The rash of new COVID-19 cases has resulted in nightclubs and other establishments being shuttered once again and deejays, as well as other entertainers, are presently out of a job.  So do they qualify for financial assistance under phase two of government’s unemployment relief programme?  Much like event planners, there is room for creatives to get the help they need to survive these COVID times.

Dr. Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director, BELTRAIDE

“The creative industry when we put the list of entities or sectors that qualify, creative industries is one.  They do qualify, they can apply because we know how affected they were.”

Dr. Carla Barnett, Minister of State, Ministry of Labor

“In phase one of our unemployment relief we did approve a number of artists, musical artists and deejays, people who do event planning, because, you know, things like weddings and that sort of thing were very much downscaled and so a lot of that work was lost.  So we had people who applied and benefited.”
