Snaking Lines at San Pedro Medical Clinic

Residents of San Pedro are attempting to keep calm, but there is nervousness on the island which is the epicenter of the coronavirus in the country. Still hundreds more have been exposed. As you know the island is on a fourteen day lockdown beginning today. All day, there have been complaints from residents who have gone for testing; the clinic is overwhelmed and long lines have been snaking. The wait can take hours. Residents say they have had to endure the heat, sun and mosquitoes.  One of the persons waiting to test says there was no drinking water and when the rains came down, there was no cover. Another with whom we spoke says that he and his family have been going back and forth to the clinic for two days; only symptomatic persons are being tested.

Voice of: San Pedro Resident

“It is me and my entire family that have been trying to get test. I came here by myself whole day yesterday; I was unable to get tested and today we finally made some progress. So far they are telling us that they are only taking persons with severe symptoms; that’s basically my mom and little sister. Like me and my dad were told to just be in self isolation and wait for results from my other two family members. If they come up positive, it is going to be classified as a case where the entire family will be considered a COVID-19 case.  I believe if both of them come positive, they will then run tests on us too to confirm, but they will classify us as a positive case.”

“How long have you guys been here waiting?’

Voice of: San Pedro Resident

“Today, my parents came eight o’clock, I came around nine but we went in as a family around ten. And so far the line is extremely long because I’ve been her all day yesterday, so year.”
