Three Villages in Orange Walk Quarantined

Dean Barrow

Turning to Orange Walk….the villages of Santa Martha, Shipyard and Guinea Grass will also go into lockdown at midnight. Santa Martha is of particular concern because a cluster has been identified there. Cases have also been detected in Shipyard and Guinea Grass, so those two communities go under lockdown as well.  The rest of the Orange Walk District is exempted, but will follow the guidelines of the rest of the country where curfew measures are being imposed.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“So for now, we will not shut down the entirety of the Orange Walk District. Remember that we can go back as the tracing and tracking exercise continues, if we find anything more that mandates a change of position then we can always return to the fray and widen the restrictions that are going to be put in place for some villages in the Orange Walk District to the entirety of the District. For now, though, we will quarantine Santa Martha, clearly. That is obviously a hotspot and a source of the possibility at least of serious community transmission. So, Santa Martha Village will be quarantined; as will the villages of Shipyard and Guinea Grass, The quarantining of those villages will be clearly along the same lines as just described with respect to the quarantining of Ambergris Caye.”
