Non-Essential Travel Across the Country Must be Avoided

Marvin Manzanero

Contact tracing for the positive case in Belmopan begins; that person is linked to the Santa Martha case in the north. The mapping exercise continues for the clusters in San Pedro and elsewhere. In his presentation today, Doctor Manzanero stressed that non-essential travel across the country must be avoided to contain any spread of the virus.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“We are aware as a Ministry of Health that people are leaving the island, which can be difficult to trace all contacts because people would have left the island before we identified a case on Sunday. So, this has started to clog up lines everywhere. If you know you were in contact with anybody who has been detected as a positive case or you are a close contact of those positive cases, we are going to ask that you call the 0-800-MOH-CARE number or the nearest health centre number so that you can be guided to what actions you are going to be taking because we wouldn’t want people who are symptomatic linked to the San Pedro case to start going around in public transportation as a means of accessing health services. We are also not envisioning that people should be leaving the island because they have signs and symptoms. That is not necessarily going to solve the problem. You may actually be taking the virus from wherever you are in San Pedro on to your family or community or wherever you live. For now, the request from the Ministry of Health is all non-essential travel across the country must be avoided.”
