Officer Scalded by Resident

A frontline worker was attacked by a resident who refused to wear a mask. This morning, Inspector Keith Clarke was scalded with boiling water near the Pound Yard Bridge when the officer informed an individual that the person was violating the quarantine rules, as it relates to the use of face masks. Unfortunately the officer sustained burns to the shoulder for doing his job. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that the department will not be deterred by the incident.

“It is a sad day for Belize to see that the police officer is enforcing a very important law that is put in place to ensure the safety of all of us Belizeans and in so doing, one idiot took it upon himself and threw hot water on the police causing a huge burn on the officer’s shoulder. That is really, really sad. Nonetheless the police is going to do what needs to be done. We are not going to be perturbed by incidents of this nature. We know that the job is not an easy one; we know that people will attack us when we try to do our work from time to time and we are prepared for that. The officer, I spoke to him, he is in good spirit. He went to the doctor, his injury has been classified and the person responsible will be charged.”
