ComPol Says Mexicans Did Not Participate in Fishing Tournament

Chester Williams

Since the weekend, speculation has been rampant that a recent fishing tournament at Grand Caribe Resort at San Pedro contributed to the climb in the cases of COVID-19.  That tournament has been referred to as a super spreader because of the number of persons that may have been exposed.  Commissioner of Police Chester Williams was asked about it today.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“I have heard the allegations myself and I personally contacted the officer in charge of San Pedro, Mister Noble and Mister Noble assured me that there were no Mexicans at the tournament.  As a matter of fact he said on the day of question they did get information that Mexicans were in the tournament and he personally went to check the individuals who they were saying they were Mexicans but they were Belizeans. So as to where this information is coming from? I don’t know. I can also tell you that the coast guard were out on the sea ensuring that there were no breach of the borders water ways between Ixcalak and San Pedro. Going by what I have been briefed by Mister Noble and from what I have heard by coast guard, I don’t see how Mexicans cold be there but if anybody have any evidence to show that Mexicans were there then please for Christ sake bring it forward and stop making speculation and accusation without any proof.”
