Persons Leaving San Pedro Amid Fear of Lockdown of Island

The Ministry of Health confirmed today that there is no community spread of the novel coronavirus. It is awaiting results of more than a hundred persons tested for the virus, relating to cases confirmed over the weekend.  San Pedro is of particular concern and there is fear on the island that if the tests turn out positive for many others, a lockdown will be instituted. Since early this morning, persons who work on the island began leaving by water taxi. When the island was placed on lockdown in March, droves of Belizeans were unable to return to the mainland as quick as they wanted so now in anticipation of strict measures, they have started to exit the island.  The last boat from the island arrived in the city full with passengers this evening.
