Scotia Bank Closes Temporarily on San Pedro; Staff Exhibiting Flu-Like Symptoms

Marvin Manzanero

Today, Scotia Bank issued a notice to say that it has temporarily closed its branch in San Pedro.  The release says that the reason for the closure is to conduct deep cleaning and sanitization.  The bank says that the precautionary measure was implemented because a number of staff members at the branch are now exhibiting flu-like symptoms. Today, we asked DHS Doctor Marvin Manzanero for a comment on that situation and he says that samples were taken from employees of the bank.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“I believe those persons are on the list of persons who were swabbed if you are symptomatic. In terms of what you can do, well, if you were in contact you are going to have to monitor your signs and symptoms but if you are at a bank I believe you are going to be listed as a casual kind of contact. I don’t think that you go in to a bank and stay more than fifteen minutes discussing. Of course, if any of them is positive then they will have to go back and retrace their steps with contact they may have had with anybody.   This underscores what we keep saying that whenever you are in a public place you have to take all the necessary precautions. I can’t assume that when I go the bank that they have done adequate cleaning. I have to wear my mask and get the business that I need to get done. If I don’t need to take my children – because children are still going into the bank and all these public places. I think the usual prevention measures will always prevail.”

The bank is expected to reopen on Thursday.
