Stevedore Disappointed with President Evan “Mose” Hyde

Cyril Fuller

According to Fuller, several discussions were had with C.W.U. President Evan “Mose” Hyde regarding his concerns. Fuller says that he had hopes that Hyde would address his concerns, but that did not happen and so Fuller remains a disappointed stevedore.

Hipolito Novelo

“Do you believe that this time around under the presidency of Mose the concerns that you have will be properly addressed?”

Cyril Fuller, Stevedore/Member, C.W.U.

“I had high expectations that it would have been addressed.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Are you disappointed?”

Cyril Fuller

“I’m disappointed. A C.B.A. is signed. Right now you have a CBA that article twenty-nine talks about a union fund, that CWU will get authorization from the stevedores for the union fund. So I don’t know if it is another shift of this money. Why do we need authorization now for deductions to be made and why didn’t we need it back then in 2017 when our concerns were being raised from under Dale Trujeque. Mose taking over, Mose knew about it. We were meeting with Mose, talking to him bring our concerns and just go a headshake, being pushed around and now a C.B.A. being signed.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Do you believe the union has failed you?”

Cyril Fuller

“Failed, big time. That is unfair labour representation. That is big time. The first thing in a C.B.A. you look at is benefit. And if you are destroying my work history, is that fair?”
