Belizeans Want to Travel; Will They Get a Test?

The Director of Health Services touched on a wide range of issues today. Now, as the P.G.I.A. gets ready for reopening on August fifteenth, the Ministry of Health says that a large number of Belizeans are also getting ready to travel.  But for their travels, they require a test to present to the countries where they are heading to and the Ministry of Health says they will need to review these cases to determine who will get a test. Those persons who are seeking to engage in non-urgent travel may not qualify.

“We are looking at the increase in terms of the requests that are coming to us for people requesting PCR tests in order to leave the country. It seems that the amount of people who want to leave the country is still significant. When we checked yesterday, I think we were told that twenty percent of the flight that arrives on August fifteenth is full with people leaving. I don’t know who are leaving. We can understand students leaving. We can understand people leaving for medical reasons and we are going to look at those on a case by case basis and determine who we will do a PCR test on.   You will appreciate concerning people arriving, so if you are travelling for non-essential reasons you will not be considered for a PCR test. In some cases, we have given people a medical report and that seems to be good enough because we don’t have documented community transmission, a report is good enough for you to take out of country.”
