Finnegan Reacts to Elrington’s Comments

Michael Finnegan

Disagreeing with some of Elrington’s comments was his cabinet colleague, Michael Finnegan. Finnegan pointed out to Elrington that the Samuel Haynes Institute of Excellence was built to arrest the societal problems in south side Belize City, but apparently it has also failed to do so.

Michael Finnegan, Area Representative, Mesopotamia

“I listened to my friend member from Pickstock and I believe that was exactly why the Samuel Haynes Institute of Arts and the big name that it has was built, to arrest these problems that the country is facing. They have cabinet shop back there, the build furniture there, they build coffin. There are schools back there where they lecture people and people go in there and teach to the children. There are libraries and everything back there but apparently that has not helped the people in Pickstock. Apparently that has not help and it isn’t my friend from Pickstock to be blamed for that. He has tried. He has tried wit this big institute, this gargantuan institution that should have solved all the problems in Pickstock. The problem remains gargantuan. So it is not like the government is sitting this side and nobody is doing noting and there are no programs and there are no initiatives. Although we raise our children, our girls sometimes shift and do things that we didn’t teach them to do. Our boys shift and do things that we didn’t teach them to do. Our boys pick up some bad habits that we didn’t teach them to do. Our girls move one side and pick up some worthless habits that we didn’t teach them to do but I want to disagree with something that members that Pickstock said that our girls out there are not bad girls. I resent that. Our girls are not evil girls. Our girls are good girls. Belizean women are good women. Belizean young girls are good girls and Belizean girls are trying their best in order to cope with what is happening in our society.”
