Samuel August Sr. Sentenced to 7 Years for Robbery

Samuel August Sr.

Magistrate Emerson Banner today sentenced Samuel August Senior to seven years imprisonment after he found him guilty on Friday of the November second, 2018 robbery of a woman’s vehicle, which he later crashed into a parked backhoe on the Philip Goldson Highway.  The father of three was receiving medical attention at the K.H.M.H. for an injury to his forehead and lungs, sustained when he drove a backhoe belonging to the Belize City Council into the home of his three sons and his ex-mother-in-law, Louise Young.  Young and his youngest son, five-year-old Samir August, were killed.  August escaped from the hospital and in the area of Gentle Avenue, he accosted Tanesha Ross as she was about to drive off in her 2015 Chevy Equinox. He took her vehicle and drove to the Philip Goldson Highway where he slammed into the parked excavator.  Fenton Ross, the victim’s brother who was on his way to Belize City spotted the vehicle and set chase.  That chase ended when August slammed the SUV into a parked backhoe, then armed himself with a knife and a pair of scissors and began to inflict cut wounds to his chest before he was subdued.  In court, he begged for leniency and told the magistrate that he was sorry, has changed and is ready to re-enter society.  During trial, he said that he had suffered a mental breakdown, but a psychiatric evaluation determined that he was mentally fit to stand trial. August is awaiting trial for the murders of his five-year-old son and Louise Young.
