Queen Square Anglican Gets Ready for August 10th!

Bernadine Conorquie

As Queen Square Anglican Primary School prepares to take more of its lessons online, Principal Bernadine Conorquie says that there is a lot more going on to get the school ready for its August tenth reopening.  Today, the school held a P.T.A. meeting to update parents on the changes around the school.

“The feeling right now is a positive feeling and we have been working very hard. Our teachers have been in tuned with what is happening. We have been doing the ground work with what needs happen as we get ready. We hold our students dear to our hearts and so whatever it is that we need to do for their safety that is what we are doing. The Ministry submitted a check-list that we have to follow and we have covered all the bases that we have to cover.”

“Come August tenth, what will it look like here at the school? What changes can teachers or parents expect?”

“Okay, so one of the first changes is that you will see that we have the hand wash station at the gate. Our students will no longer – we have a total of five hundred plus students and all those five hundred plus students will no longer be on the compound at the same time because we have to practice the social distancing. Our students will be coming to school on rotation basis. Some will be coming on Monday and the group A will be coming Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And group B will be coming Tuesday and Thursday and the rotation will start all over again.”

“So, you have a meeting with parents – can you share what is being discussed and what are parents saying?”

Bernadine Conorquie, Principal

“So, we are having our PTA to inform the parents what the reopening for the new school year will be like. We have done a power point presentation for them and we have also done a booklet for them to take home to become familiar with what these new protocols are that they need to abide by. I must say that parents have various concerns of what will happen, for example, one parent has a concern that she works out of the city and she has several students who come here and she wants to know if we can hold on to the students. But one of the things we are trying to limit movement and having a number of students on ground. But we are asking parents for their cooperation in working with us to do their part and follow the protocols and make arrangements so that their children are safe at all times.”

Schools across the country are also adopting a rotation process to be able to practice social distancing and keep the students safe.
