5 Cases Linked to COVID-19 Cluster in Orange Walk District

As we said, these five cases are a cluster linked to illegal crossings along the Orange Walk District. According to Doctor Manzanero, for now, there are no identified close contacts of them or any other family members that are considered highly suspect. Health officials, however, will continue to verify every bit of information provided as border jumpers often provide misleading information.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“I don’t know the community they are from but that is part of the reason why we want to make sure that we have the adequate information before we can tell you where they came from, where they were going, where they were picked up, when they crossed the border, what they were doing. All those kinds of things.”

“So the family hasn’t indicated where in Mexico they were staying because we heard in the Playa del Carmen, Tulum area?”

“No I don’t know that.”

“Can this possible turn out to be a community spread given as you said we don’t know how long they have been here?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“Well they have a link across the border. That cluster would not necessarily a community spread. Can they cause a community spread? That will always be the case and that is the scary part. All the people who have jumped the border not only for the last two, two weeks it is the amount of people that are crossing the border and coming and interacting with Belizeans that is the nightmare situation, if you will.”
