Ladyville Man Chopped and Killed in Carmelita Village

Terrique Munnings

A twenty-six-year-old resident of Ladyville met a brutal death overnight in the village of Carmelita, Orange Walk where he had recently relocated.  Terrique Munnings was chopped to death at around ten o’clock. Three men approached him after he left a house where he was staying in the village.  Munnings was attacked and chopped with a machete and left to die on the Philip Goldson Highway in Carmelita Village. Two minors were with him when he was targeted; they fled, but saw the attackers. Today, the questions in everyone’s mind are who wanted him dead and why? Here is News Five’s Hipolito Novelo with a report.

Hipolito Novelo, Reporting

A terrifying machete attack left one person dead on Tuesday night. Originally from Ladyville Village, twenty-six-year-old Terrique Munnings was chopped to death at around ten o’clock. His body was discovered on the side of the Philip Goldson Highway in Carmelita Village in Orange Walk.

Patches of dirt soaked in his blood points to where Munnings bled to death. Munnings had recently arrived in the village. It was less than two weeks ago that he took residency at one of his friend’s house. On that night, he left the house with two male minors at around eight o’clock.

Eustace Flowers, Friend of Deceased

“The last time I saw him was last night. He was at the house last night but as I came out here I heard that they killed him.”

Hipolito Novelo

“What time did he leave the house?”

Eustace Flowers

“He left the house after eight?”

Reporter

“He was on your bicycle?”

Eustace Flowers

“It was two bicycles. He used the RJ bicycle because it was three of them went out.”

The trio was on bicycles and it was around here that three men, two of whom have been identified, approached them. The attackers were armed with machetes and in a matter of seconds; Munnings was brutally chopped multiple times to the body. He was left for dead. The two minors ran for their lives as the attackers pursued them.

Eustace Flowers

“When they three of them went out, two came back and say that the boy who were along with them got killed last night and I got frighten.   The two minors them when they already chopped the friends, they were after them too with machete but they ran. The two minors ran gone because they wanted to chop them too. Two of them would have gotten chopped up if they didn’t run. They ran and left the bicycle under there.”

“But did they say if they saw the faces of the men who attacked them?”

Eustace Flowers

“They say they saw the face. I think they say they have some persons hold but I don’t know if they have enough evidence.”

Two of the alleged murderers have been identified while the third remains unknown. The motive for Flowers’ murder is not yet known but this is not the first time that he has been attacked. In July 2019, Flowers came under gunfire while in the La Milpa Area of Ladyville. A long gunman pounced on Flowers shooting him several times. Death followed him when he moved to Carmelita Village less than two weeks ago.

Hipolito Novelo

“It is strange that he has been here for less than two weeks and now he has been murdered. Do you think that people were watching him; that they got to know that he was here?”

Eustace Flowers

“I don’t know who was watching him because the boys who hang out with him drink with him, smoke with him and don’t have any problem with them. I think it was different boys who come from other villages because people who live here won’t do that because they know him.”

Hipolito Novelo

“But why would somebody kill him?”

Eustace Flowers

“I don’t know why they would kill him because he was an easy person. He doesn’t give trouble.”
