Latest COVID-19 Case is Repatriated Female!

The number of COVID-19 cases stand at forty-three tonight; with eighteen of them as active cases. As you may know by now, a new case was confirmed late Tuesday evening. The Ministry of Health says that sixty-seven samples were processed and they identified a positive case. The patient is a female who came in through the repatriation process at the northern border. She has been in a quarantine facility in Orange Walk District since she entered the country. The female is asymptomatic and doesn’t need treatment.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“This week already we have had three cases confirmed. All of them are through the repatriation process. One is through the northern border entry point; one is through the western border entry point and one is from the flight on Friday. Those samples were processed on Monday. Yesterday’s case is a patient who had been in Canada, actually, but then had gone through Mexico. And that is a person who was accompanying someone seeking medical care across the border. Some of the medical issues, people can’t resolve it in Belize – in that treatment option is not available and requires surgery. So, we need to be mindful of that situation of people coming back – it’s not just people who are coming back from holiday or want to come on holiday. People who are seeking medical care – and I think this is the third person who has been the caregiver or accompanying someone who is sick coming back home.”
