2 Murdered; 3 Injured in the West!

Windell Trapp

Two men were murdered and three others were injured in crazy gun violence in Cayo. In the early hours of Sunday morning, hell broke loose outside the C.K. Sports Bar in San Ignacio. Patrons were milling outside the small bar, when gunshots were fired.  Police say there were two killers out that morning, who fired shots indiscriminately.  The killers were reportedly there for one of the men who died on the scene; the others were casualties of his feud. News Five’s Andrea Polanco went west today to find out more about this tragic incident. Here’s the story.

Andrea Polanco, Reporting

A tragedy was unleashed on Joseph Andrews Drive in San Ignacio early Sunday morning – just after twelve-thirty. The spray of bullets caught five people. Two are dead; Windell Trapp and Samuel Hill; two are in stable condition Danny Jimenez and Telesha McKay; and the fifth victim Marques Robateau is in a serious but stable condition. This tragic shooting has left the San Ignacio, Santa Elena, and Esperanza communities in shock, as many residents were out for a night on the town when they witnessed the murders just outside of CK Sports Bar. This red Toyota Camry was parked across the street. It belonged to Samuel Hill. He was operating his taxi that morning. When the killers arrived; one of them fired many shots –towards the taxi and then reportedly got away in a vehicle.

The bullets were meant for twenty-nine-year-old Windell Trapp. He is a football player and a father of two. Trapp has had multiple run-ins with the law. But it was a feud brewing with some other young men that claimed his life. He was shot dead – one of the bullets caught him in the head. There is no mistaking that he was the intended target – the other four were innocently caught.

Elleen Rivera

Elleen Rivera, Aunt of Windell Trapp

“Accordingly he got three shots; one in his head and one in his heart.”

Andrea Polanco

“What do you make of that shooting out there, why was Windell targeted?”

Elleen Rivera

“Well, I won’t say my nephew was a saint. He has a lot of faults, too. But he was a target for certain people. My nephew was the target that night and they got him that night.”

Andrea Polanco

“Did they make any previous attempts on his life?”

Elleen Rivera

“Before, yes they did. But they never really catch him like this time. They caught him off guard this time.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, you haven’t heard from anyone out there if they didn’t any funny movements; anything – something planned?”

Elleen Rivera

“Well, apparently, he knew that people were around but he didn’t make it an issue or make any scene. From the day we had a marathon here in Esperanza and there was a certain amount of guys out there already targeting him. I guess they followed him that night in the taxi and that unfolded afterwards.”

Andrea Polanco

“And so the others out there were just sort of collateral damage, then?”

Elleen Rivera

“Yes. I guess they were in the taxi along with him and so they got targeted too. But they were not the target, my nephew was.”

Trapp’s aunt says that they have received reports that he was inside the bar before the incident happened – but when he wanted to re-enter, he wasn’t allowed. She suspects that he may have been set up – she says he didn’t deserve that brutal end.

Elleen Rivera

“He got a call and went outside and when he wanted to go back inside, a young lady that worked in the nightclub called the security and told him to not let him and then she called certain persons outside and told him that he is still out there.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, you feel like it was a set up? That person may have been communicating with his killer or killers?”

Elleen Rivera

“Yes, exactly.   If he did wrong to others out there let them find him guilty and let him pay for his crime. He didn’t deserve to die like this. Yet we know the cause of it but we don’t have anyone to turn to for help. We are fighting the justice system and mourning the same time.”

Andrea Polanco

“What was the nature of his problem with those boys?”

Elleen Rivera

“I have no idea. Because, from my understanding, he and those boys were good friends but what caused the feud – I have no idea. But what I know is that because of my nephews, we as family members are targeted also.”

Andrea Polanco

“Do you guys suspect that there may be further bloodshed because of what has happened?”

Elleen Rivera

“Well, to tell you the truth, I am scared. I can’t live my life hiding, so whatever happens after this happens.”

Samuel Hill

The killer’s bullets also fatally caught twenty-two-year old Samuel Hill of Esperanza Village. Hill was working when he too was shot dead on the scene when a bullet caught him in the throat. Pastor Matthias Hill saw his son about three on Saturday afternoon – the next time he saw him was early Sunday morning, by that time he was dead.

Matthias Hill, Father of Samuel Hill

“I spoke to him, he came in here about after three in the afternoon and then he left and I said, ok son, I will see you later. I didn’t did get to see him alive.”

Andrea Polanco

“Did he share what you what he was going out to do that night?”

Matthias Hill

Matthias Hill

“Well, he was a taxi driver by profession and that is what he was doing at that time. It is just an unfortunate incident that happened.”

Andrea Polanco

“Pastor Matt, how do you reconcile with something like this? Your son was out there earning an honest dollar and he became the casualty of a feud that he had no part of?”

Matthias Hill

“Well, looking at life. It has its own challenges and risk. Yes, he was doing an honest job but it could happen to any person. It just so happens that he was there at that time.”

Samuel Hill is described as an easy going and ambitious young man. Only a week ago got his own taxi operation going so that he can work for himself.

Matthias Hill

“He was my baby boy; very jovial; mannerly. We had a good relationship; a father-son relationship. He wasn’t an upstart young man. He was just a kind, nice person.”

Andrea Polanco

“How long had he been running taxi?”

Matthias Hill

“He been running taxi for a little while for a church brethren and then one of his cousins eventually helped him out to get a taxi for his own to make something of himself. It was just like a week that had gone by that he had gotten his license when this incident happened.”

Marques Robateau

The third victim is nineteen-year-old Marques Robateau. He is a member of the Belize Coast Guard, a resident of Esperanza Village and cousin of Samuel Hill. He would usually tag along with Hill – and that is what he was doing when three bullets hit him. He underwent surgery early this morning and is now in the hospital recovering.

Voice of: Frances Robateau, Mother of Marques Robateau

“They took out the bullet because he was bleeding inside. He is on his way to recovery right now. We are just praying and hoping for the best for him because the bullet that he received lodged beside his heart and he got a bullet in his right hand shoulder and his left foot.  He said he just heard a gunshot and he ran for his life.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, he tried to get away from the scene?”

Danny Jimenez

Voice of: Frances Robateau

“Yes, he ran towards the market and he approached two police officers and he told them that he just get shot.”

The fourth victim is thirty-year-old Bandits Football Club Player, Danny Jimenez. He is also a cop attached to the Special Patrol Unit. Jimenez was standing on the side of the street near the taxi – not hanging out with the other victims – when he was shot in the face – the bullet caught him in his mouth, and has caused massive damage to his jaw.

Telesha McKay

He has been released from the hospital and now needs reconstructive surgery. And the fifth victim is twenty-nine-year-old Telesha McKay. She is a resident of Esperanza. She was shot in the shoulder. She remains hospitalized in a stable condition. Reporting for News Five, I’m Andrea Polanco.
