Latest COVID Patient Shows No Sign of Respiratory Distress

Marvin Manzanero

Orange Walk District is the last to have recorded cases of COVID-19; however, it presently has the most active cases.  In Santa Elena on Tuesday, a man in his early fifties also tested positive for COVID-19 and health officials are trying to determine where the case originated from.  According to the DHS, the patient reported to the hospital in San Ignacio with symptoms of COVID-19 that do not include respiratory complications.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“Interestingly, also Orange Walk was the last district to have reported a case of COVID-19, but out of the sixteen active cases, if my numbers add up, I believe eleven of those are in Orange Walk, out of the sixteen active cases we currently have.  Over the last testing that we did earlier in the week, and I will go to that piece of good news, first we did recover a case.  That’s the case that was in PG, so that person is able to leave the quarantine area.  In terms of what we did, yesterday when we did testing, again, we tested all those who had been on the flight that arrived on Friday and we found that there is a male person that is testing positive for SARS COVID 2.  He is asymptomatic and of course he is one of the persons that goes into the quarantine area, so that’s not necessarily going to be a cause for concern.  The flag that went up yesterday for us, from the wider surveillance group is of another case that we identified in the Cayo District, particularly in Santa Elena Town and that is a male in his early fifties who was seen at the San Ignacio Community Hospital on Saturday night complaining of gastrointestinal symptoms and having a loss of sense and a loss of taste. I must commend the clinician that saw this patient because, again, because we are talking about enhanced surveillance, this person did not present respiratory symptoms, but you have to commend the doctor for thinking of COVID-19.”
