How Ready is the Tourism Industry for the Reopening to International Visitors?

Karen Bevans

…and how ready is the tourism industry for the reopening to international visitors? For some time now, hotels and properties across the country have been following sanitization guidelines set by the Ministry of Tourism in anticipation of arriving guests to reduce risks on employees and prevent any spread of the virus.  Tourism Director Karen Bevans says that stakeholders are getting its staff trained and ready for August fifteenth and beyond.

Karen Bevans, Director of Tourism

“Many stakeholders are contributing a lot; many of them are in advance of what we are doing. But we are working with our stakeholders to make the industry as safe as possible. All our guidelines and protocols are being implemented. In fact, as you are aware, we issued a national guidelines which is the overarching guideline for the entire industry. That was spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism. Following that, the B.T.B. took the lead and introduced the hotel and restaurant guidelines and this week; we are now releasing the tour operator guidelines. All those are protocols to be implemented to make the industry as safe as possible. We feel that if stakeholders continue to operate the way they are and attend the training sessions, clarify any points they may have and take the necessary action, we feel that we are in a good position. I cannot say there will not be concerns, but I feel we will be in a good position to minimize any negative situation that could happen. We are also monitoring what is going on in the other areas and the other destinations; we are learning from them, we are listening to what they are doing and the actions they are taking and we are taking similar actions so that we can be fully prepared when August fifteenth is here.”
