Armed Thief Hits MADISCO Truck in Santa Elena

Robberies and other crimes continue to increase across the country; in broad daylight today, a Madisco delivery van was robbed. But is it an inside job? Surveillance camera images show as a gunman relieve one of two men inside the van of a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash. The men, employees of Madisco, were making a delivery at Two Ladies Store in Santa Elena. The robbery was executed quickly and the gunman is seen running from the scene. Here is News Five’s Isani Cayetano.

Isani Cayetano, Reporting

There has been a surge in the number of armed robberies being committed across the country, more so amid the economic crisis that came with the COVID-19 pandemic.  Earlier today, a pair of deliverymen, both employees of MADISCO, were robbed at gunpoint in Santa Elena Town where a lone assailant relieved them of an undisclosed sum of money as they were about to drive off from Two Ladies Stores on George Price Avenue.  The men had just completed the sale and delivery of a supply of cigarettes and had gotten back inside their delivery truck when an unidentified, dark-skinned male wearing a mask and ball cap, approached the passenger side of the van.  He quickly produced a firearm and proceeded to relieve the sideman of the cash.  News Five understands that an eyewitness immediately called the San Ignacio Police Station to report the incident but she was casually dismissed by the officer who took the call.  Up to on news time this evening, police have not released official details of the incident, however, the robbery is believed to be the result of an inside job.
