Officer to be Charged for Sexual Assault in Independence

Dwayne Sutherland

A policeman attached to the Intermediate Southern Formation in Independence Village is expected to be charged for the sexual assault of a seventeen-year-old female minor. On July sixth, the minor in the company of her mother reported that the officer, who took her into custody for driving a vehicle without a driver’s license, made an indecent proposal and in exchange she would not be charged for traffic related offenses. He then forced her into a sexual act on Savannah Road in the village. An investigation was launched into the allegation and Commander of the Professional Standards Branch of the Police Department, Superintendent Dwayne Sutherland says that charges will be levelled against the officer involved.

“In respect to the case in Independence Village, that file was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution. We had been given some directives as it relates to some follow up work to be done. Nevertheless as soon as those follow up work is completed, it is expected that very shortly the officer will be charged criminally in respect to that complaint.”
