Jose Abelardo Mai Comments on SOE in San Felipe, Blue Creek

San Felipe and Blue Creek Villages are under quarantine and will remain in that state for no less than a month since Statutory Instrument one hundred came into effect on May tenth. Citizens trapped inside that area have to adhere to strict curfew regulations, no one goes in and no one comes out. Blue Creek is known as an agro-productive community and much of our poultry and grains come from there. Certain protocols have been put in place to allow for these products to be transported outside the zone. Area Representative for Orange Walk South Jose Abelardo Mai says it is a logistical nightmare.

“Essentially it makes reference to cargo coming out, food supply, coming out from Blue Creek which is essentially poultry, eggs, rice, I think pork, beef meats. It makes reference to those where they were saying that the driver that is coming out of the productive zones has to leave his tandem container. That has led to some problems because not all trucks have detachable backs, cargo backs. Some are fixed. When it is fixed, I think they just change driver and they sanitized the trucks and then they move out but that is logistical nightmare. It is not too practical and I think we have made certain changes to that right now because we realize that it is not working well.”
