Pearl Stuart to Step Down as U.D.P. Secretary General

Pearl Stuart

The U.D.P. Secretary General Pearl Stuart is also stepping down.  The former executive director of the National Committee for Families and Children took up the post in 2008 when the U.D.P. assumed office under the leadership of Dean Barrow.  Stuart has remained in that position since and has served the party faithfully under the PM, but she is moving on in order to allow for the incoming party leader to choose his own Sec Gen.

Dean Barrow, U.D.P. Leader

“Pearl’s position was that when I go she goes, and although I am not going formally as leader, the understanding clearly has to be that the leader elect will concentrate completely on party matters and will run the party and Pearl feels that that person should have the opportunity to choose his own secretary general.  Pearl served the entire party but it was well known that she and I were especially close and to some extent she was seen as my secretary general.  So I think she’s doing the right thing in the highest possible traditions.”
