“A Couple of More Positive” COVID-19 Cases to be Confirmed This Week in O.W.

And from politics to health; Belize has fifteen active cases of COVID-19 with nine being in the Orange Walk District. On Friday, four more cases were identified and the persons placed at the quarantine facility in Orange Walk Town. All seven cases were identified as persons, who had been crossing the border into Mexico through La Union illegally, something that the family is denying. So an entire family of seven is currently at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex under quarantine. The community cluster identified in Blue Creek Village forced authorities to place the villages of Blue Creek and San Felipe under the State of Emergency for a one month period. A curfew is in effect in those villages which starts at eight o’clock in the night and ends at five-fifty-nine the following morning. Minors are expected to be at home between six o’clock in the evening to six o’clock the following morning. Social distancing is being enforced and social gathering is limited to ten persons. Contact tracing began immediately given the fear that it might be a community spread. According to Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero, the matter is currently being treated as a community cluster since all persons infected are members of the same family. Manzanero says that the number of suspected cases has increased and officials are expecting to identify more cases in the area in the next few days.

“Contact tracing started on the same Friday, went until Saturday. It is going on now, wrapping up basically. I should get a report later on this evening. We have identified other potential suspects that were having minor signs and symptoms. You know that we will swab those close contacts of the initial cases. So that has happened. They were placed in isolation from the Saturday. We have gotten support from the Blue Community to ensure that we continue with our contact tracing the way it is supposed to happen.”

“How many more suspected cases have been identified?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“From the initial list I had four that were having minor signs and symptoms but at least nine other close contacts.”

“Is it expected that those text might come back positive?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“It’s a flip but I would think that we are going a couple of more positives this week.”
