Police Week Replaced by Citizen Appreciation Day

Traditionally, around this time, the Belize Police Department would put off an entire week of activities to celebrate police week. But due to COVID-19 pandemic police will instead be celebrating a citizen awareness initiative.  The National Citizen Appreciation Day takes place on Wednesday, July fifteenth; all major police stations across the country will be identifying outstanding persons within the community and those persons will be recognised. Commander of Management Services, Dezerie Magdaleno speaks on the events for the day, including an open day activity to highlight the various services that the department offers.

“We will start off the morning with a vehicular checkpoint across the country. But it will not be the regular checkpoint that we have on a regular basis.  It will be a courtesy checkpoint and officers will be out there equipped with flyers and bumper stickers to issue to our motorists to say thank you for your support; thank you for being a good citizen. Thereafter, we will be having an open day. It will not be what we would traditionally have during our police week where we have different partner agencies come in a showcase/highlight what services they offer. It will be different units, branches, sections within the police department that will be highlighting the different services that they offer. The main highlight of the open day will be a ceremony where we will be recognising persons who we consider our outstanding citizens within the respective area. These open days will be at all major police stations across the country; all these activities will be happening simultaneously.”
