3 Fisherman are Remanded for Charges Related to San Pedro Home Invasion

There was a home invasion and robbery in San Pedro Town over the weekend which also involved a kidnapping. Three fishermen have been arraigned for the crime. Ruben Martinez, Mark Hernandez and David Lopez are spending their second night behind bars at the central prison in Hattieville. They are accused of entering the home of Virgilio Gomez Alverto on Saturday morning; Lopez was armed with a machete, Martinez with a knife and Hernandez was carrying a stick. A fight ensued between Alverto was beaten with the stick and Martinez was cut to the neck. The trio then dragged Alverto to a waiting skiff on the lagoon side. The victim managed to escape and sought refuge at a nearby deli, owned by his wife, in the San Mateo area on the island. When he returned home, Alverto found that a number of household items were missing. Those include two television sets and a DVD player. His stolen washing machine was later discovered at the lagoon. A medical officer confirmed that Alverto suffered from a swollen cheek, scratches and scrapes on both feet, abrasions to the back and a cut wound to the arm. Martinez, Hernandez and Lopez were jointly charged with attempted kidnapping, burglary and wounding. They were remanded to prison and are to return to court on October seventh.
