P.U.P. Says Boledo Contract to Brads Stinks of Cronyism

The ten-year contract for the administration of the lottery is coming under fire from the People’s United Party. Brads Gaming Company was awarded the contract by the government last week; it runs until 2030. Today, the People’s United Party says it stinks of cronyism. The P.U.P. points to the cozy relationship between Brads and senior government ministers who over the years have been faithfully converging at the bottom of the BelCan Bridge to roll their dice. The P.U.P. also notes that the contract was issued just ahead of General Elections and worth conservatively at up to four hundred and fifty million dollars.  According to the P.U.P., the timing is bizarre given the cutbacks in health services, including the termination of medical practitioners and the slashing of education funding.  The P.U.P. states that the contract to Brads Gaming Company reveals that even in times of crisis, it is business as usual for the U.D.P. and calls on the government to desist from the irresponsible spending of the people’s money.  It concludes by saying that in just a matter of weeks, the people of Belize will be called on to deliver a new mandate, one that tolerates no corruption, no kickbacks, no bloated contracts and no enrichment.  Two other entities presented bids for the contract, but Brads was able to retain its hold on lottery, though there have been complaints from the public in the way it is administered.
