Raheem Faber is Gunned Down on Ebony Street

Raheem Faber

Within days of the lifting of the curfew, violence has returned to the streets of the city. Two men were killed over the weekend and it is believed the murders are gang-related. The first occurred just before midnight on Friday, nineteen-year-old Raheem Faber was targeted at the corner of Ebony and Mayflower Street where he was hanging out.  A number of persons have been detained and police are following all leads including one in which Faber had sold a gun which was in turn used to take his life. Here is News Five’s Duane Moody.

The Old Capital recorded two murders over the weekend, which the police say are related. The first occurred just before midnight on Friday in what is referred to as Ghost Town gang territory. Nineteen-year-old Raheem Faber was socializing with friends at the corner of Ebony and Mayflower Streets when a gunman approached and fired several shots towards him. Faber was struck several times and collapsed a block away on Pine Street. Police responded quickly; Faber was placed in the pan of the pickup truck and rushed to the K.H.M.H.  Unfortunately, he died minutes later.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division

“He was along with other persons in a yard when a male person entered and fired several shots at his direction, causing his death. Since then, police have conducted an investigation and several persons were detained and they still have some in custody that are being questioned at this moment.”

There is a report, however, that suggests that Faber was engaged in illegal activity in that area. While Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, says that this is one of the many leads that police is following at this time, ComPol Chester Williams says that it involved the sale of a gun, which was in turn used to killed Faber.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“We had information that the shooting of Faber came about from the sale of a gun. And apparently the same gun that he was selling was what was used for his murder.”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“We know that there is an issue between two of the gangs in that area and we believe that that shooting had led to some previous misunderstanding that they had before.”

Faber is no stranger to the law. On a social media post back in April of 2018, at age seventeen, he says “Before anybody say R.I.P. to me, I will R.I.P. to myself. Am already dead you can’t see that fools; from the day I put in my life in the streets, am no more alive – am just living to die.”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“He is known to us and if you recall he was charged last year for a shooting incident that happened on North Front Street along with two other guys.”
