Raheem Myles is Murdered in Retaliation

Raheem Myles

Less than twenty-four hours after the killing of Raheem Faber, Raheem Myles was gunned down. Police believe it was a retaliatory murder, avenging the shooting death of Faber.  When Myles was shot on Saturday night, twenty-year old Kimary Bradley was also injured; police say she was holding a baby in her arms at the time. The two murders have put the police on alert to avert any further violence. Here is News Five’s Duane Moody with a report.

Less than twenty-four hours after the shooting death of Raheem Faber, shouts rang out once again – this time on Fabers Road at its intersection with Waight Street. Around seven p.m. on Saturday, Raheem Myles was hanging out with friends when a gunman opened fire in his direction. The twenty-three-year-old was struck multiple times; he ran onto the street but collapsed a stone’s throw away and died minutes later at the K.H.M.H.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division

“What we know is that Mister Myles was there with other persons socialising when someone approached him and fired several shots at him causing his death. So far, police have detained several persons likewise for that investigation and they are presently in custody being interviewed by police officers.”

Residents in the area fear for their lives because there is threat of retaliation. We are told that Myles lived with his father a short distance away from the crime scene in the Yarborough area. Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams says that the investigation so far has revealed that the murder of Raheem Myles is retaliation for the killing of Raheem Faber less than twenty-four hours earlier.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“The shooting of Raheem Myles, from what we are seeing is in retaliation for the death of Faber. And yes these are things that just came up; it’s not longstanding issues, but things that just emanated and swiftly resulted into the two shootings. And may I say that from a police standpoint, we are addressing the issue.”

According to Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, police did not have any encounter with Myles for some time now.

“Sir I know that Mister Myles is known to investigators. Is there any incident that he may have been involved in, even though what the commissioner said, may have precipitated this particular murder?”

“We know that yes he had a history with police, but for almost a long time, we know that he had left that life and was committed to other things. We have not had an encounter with him for almost less than a year, but he has not been with us for a good while.”

A twenty-year-old woman was also injured in the shooting. She was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released. Duane Moody for News Five.
