Belizean Security Forces Ward Off Narco Plane

Belizeans security forces on Saturday night deterred a narco plane from landing in the country. That plane was forced to crash land on a highway in Quintana Roo, Mexico. The Mexican army secured more than five hundred kilos of cocaine in two separate vehicles linked to the plane.  The aircraft was located by the army’s comprehensive air surveillance system which tracked the plane somewhere in Central America. Belizean authorities received similar information and Police Commissioner Chester William deployed several teams to areas where they believed the plane would land. Near Chunox Village, forces discovered a portion of the road which had been prepared with lanterns for the plane’s landing. That was believed to have been the plane’s original landing site, but the criminals on the ground realized that police were in the area and sent word to the pilot to land the plane elsewhere. That is how the plane crashed landed and was set on fire on a highway.

“On Saturday night we got information of a tracking coming out of Central America and may be coming our way. As we would normally do we deployed our human and other assets to different possible landing spots and the team that went into the Chunox area encountered a portion of a road that was well prepared and well lit with lanterns in the form of an airstrip and so the team of security forces remained in the area concealed, awaiting the plane because at that time we had received information that the plane was approaching our airspace. We waited there hoping that the plane would have made a landing but it would appear as if the persons who were suppose to be the ground crew for that plane might have spotted the security forces in the area and relayed the message to the plane and so the plane just flew over and made a force landing in Mexico on a highway.  I believe you have seen the video footage coming out of Mexico with the plane on fire on the highway. The Mexican authorities were able to cease some of the drugs that were in the plane and some might have gotten away. But that was a good work n the part of Mexico and good work on the part of Belize.  We have long known that we do have facilitators of these illicit activities in Belize. It is not new to us. We know who some of them area but again getting the evidence to prosecute them is a different story. If it is that we were to find them in the area of the landing s then that would make a better case for us. We currently have a few of these matters in the court.”
