ComPol Williams: “Gang members will not be allowed to have their way in the city!”

Chester Williams

And when it comes to the gangs, Commissioner Chester Williams says that he has zero tolerance for the crimes they are committing and will not be taking it lightly – but will push through their actions to the fullest extent of the law.  Today he told the press that he is not engaging the gangs in dialogue although they have requested his intervention. Williams says he will not allow the gangs control the city with their criminal activities.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“These gang members are not going to be allowed to have their way in the city. It will not be tolerated. So, what needs to be done to address the issue will be done.”

“As you had stated in an interview before, there can be a call for these guys to be sent back to prison?”

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“All I will say is that I am not going to babysit no criminal. CYDP has been doing an exceptional job in trying to see how they can diffuse tensions between these different factions. CYDP is the proper authority to address the issues, not the police. So, I am not going into no sit-down or dialogue with them. They have asked for me to speak with them and I have said point blank that I am not going to meet with them. From a law enforcement stand point, they start their fool and I am going to do what I have to do. And at the end of the day, the chips are going to fall where they may. They cannot and they will not be allowed to take us back to February- early March with the senseless shootings. In one of the incidents over the weekend, a female who had a child in her hands was shot and that child could have been killed by that bullet. So, we are seeing the recklessness by some of these monsters. And we need to do what needs to be done to address it. And it will be done swiftly.  We are also taking into consideration the number of robberies that are being committed by gang members, so in some cases these business owners feel extremely threatened because of the degree being put in them by these gang members who are extorting them. These are activities that we cannot continue to let happen. People must be allowed to feel safe, whether a businessman or the ordinary Belizean people. We must be allowed to feel safe in our country and we cannot have a set of people who believe that they can hold us hostage do so. So, from a law enforcement stand point, we will do what needs to be to ensure that our law abiding citizens feel that sense of safety and security that they so rightly deserve to enjoy.”
