P.P.E.s Donated to Belize
A little over half a million Belize dollars worth of Personal Protective Equipment was donated to Belize by the governments of the United Kingdom, Canada and PAHO/WHO for the country’s COVID-19 response. The donation will primarily support infection prevention and control for healthcare personnel throughout the country. Items such as face shields, respirators, face masks goggles and gowns were handed over to the Minister of Health Pablo Marin. PAHO/WHO Belize hosted an official handover with the representatives from the British and Canadian High Commissions today at the Philip Goldson International Airport.
Pablo Marin, Minister of Health
“It is two hundred and seventy thousand US dollars of PPEs. That is face masks, gloves. We have gowns. So it is an extent from what we have here in the country for us to be able to give our healthcare providers and frontline workers which is what is needed.”
Claire Evans, British High Commissioner to Belize
“So the UK had donated three hundred and forty thousand Belize dollars. We are doing in partnership with PAHO and with our colleagues from the Canadian government. It is part of a wider contribution that we are making from the UK to the Caribbean.”
Dr. Noreen Jack, PAHO/WHO Representative in Belize
“PAHO has been raising funds from many donors around the world to support the COVID response in the Americas. This is part of that response and this demonstrations the collaboration with the United Kingdom and Canada in terms of getting the personal protective equipment for healthcares workers.”
Lynn Young, Honorary Consul for Canada to Belize
“Canada is very happy to be able to partner with PAHO and to do this through PAHO. Canada recognizes that under this situation, this pandemic it is never enough but Canada will be doing as much as they can to try and help Belize.”
