Planning a Party in a Quarantine Hotel – Say What?

Marvin Manzanero

Belize has recorded twenty-eight cases of COVID-19 – of the eight active cases, one of those patients was ordered to leave the country, so currently there are seven cases within our borders. The active cases represent one foreigner and six Belizeans; these are all persons who entered illegally as well as repatriated Belizeans.  But a bigger number of people remain in quarantine and today the Director of Health Services said those persons may experience more stringent measures at their facilities because some haven’t been acting responsibly.  Doctor Marvin Manzanero shared today on the Ask the Experts Webcast that some of these persons are itching for freedom and a group reportedly wanted to throw a party at one of the quarantine hotels.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“I know it might not be the prettiest of circumstances but understand that once you are coming to quarantine hotel you are not going there for a holiday, so to speak. I know that people are concerned that you are locked up in a room and there is a specific reason for that. We have had reports of people wanting to leave their room; people wanting to walk down the hall. We got a preliminary report of a group of people wanting to meet and have a party on the floor of a hotel. So, as you move along you have to understand that the measures are going to have to start to be a little bit drastic. We anticipate that people are going to be able to understand because we are dealing with adults. I think we should be able to understand the severity of the situation that we are dealing with and we can appreciate the reason why we do some of the things that we do.”
