U.D.P. Chairman on John Saldivar’s Candidacy

Michael Peyrefitte

News Five also asked Chairman Michael Peyrefitte for his take as to why John Saldivar was being permitted to run again for the leadership, having given the party a black eye with the Lev Dermen scandal.

Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.

“We have to look at it objectively. Minister Saldivar has not been accused of doing anything illegal. He has not been convicted of doing anything illegal according to Belizean laws. And he is running to be a leader of a political party in Belize. So if according to Belize law he has not been convicted of any criminal activity, then we have no other position than to say look that is something that he will have to wear going into the convention and the delegates will decide whether or not that will affect him or not.”
