An MSME Support Program for Private Sector Businesses

Dean Barrow

As government prepares to rollout out phase two of its unemployment relief program, it is also gearing up for the introduction of another initiative to assist micro, small and medium enterprises in rebounding from the economic crisis associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.  MSME Support Program will see up to fourteen million dollars being earmarked for the private sector from monies that were borrowed from the Central Bank for COVID relief.  This morning, flanked by Minister Tracy Panton, Doctor Carla Barnett and Doctor Leroy Almendarez, the prime minister presented the new plan, as well as details on how it will be launched in the weeks ahead.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“We are today announcing the start of phase two of the National Unemployment Relief program and we are also unveiling a new initiative to provide special assistance to the so-called MSME‘s.  That is micro, small and medium enterprises.  Government, via the economic stabilization and recovery committee which is [part] of the national taskforce is presently working on a complete roadmap for the stimulation of post-COVID business and economic activity.  That exercise is in its final stages and should go to Cabinet for discussion and approval next week.  One of the highlights of that exercise is in fact the work done on MSME‘s, but the MSME component of the plan can serve as a standalone ingredient.”
